What Is ALS?
ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) attacks the nerve cells that control movement. Over time, the brain stops talking to the muscles, taking away the ability to walk, talk, eat, and eventually breathe. There is no cure.

Every 90 min: someone is diagnosed with ALS, and someone dies from it
1 in 300: people will get ALS in their lifetime
2x: veterans are twice as likely to develop ALS
90%: of cases have no known cause or family history
2–5 years: average life expectancy after diagnosis
20,000+: Americans affected every year. Anyone can get it.
WHO WAS LOU GEHRIG?
Yankees legend who played 2,130 games in a row and won the 1934 Triple Crown. ALS forced him to retire in 1939, and he passed in 1941. His #4 was the first jersey number ever retired. Before he was diagnosed, he kept asking for lighter bats as his arms weakened.
